?Balance?

I have been searching for that one perfect word that can sum up 2017.  I think the word for me is BALANCE.  It’s felt like a rollercoaster of a year and most times it feels like I have been off balance.  Today is December 16, 2017 and I am happy that we are days away from 2018.  However, I do have empirical proof that I must have had some balance in 2017 as evidenced by the following:  my child is still alive, I am still married, and I have a job.

This year I tried to provide my daughter with memoriable positive experiences.  She traveled by train for the first time to NYC, rode on the carousel in Central Park, stayed in a hotel, went to art camp, learned to play LAX, took dance lessons, rode a waterslide, picked fresh blueberries and apples, trick or treating with neighborhood friends, attend a theater event with some of her favorites characters and the list goes on.  What I want her to get out of these experiences is to alway seek new and interesting things to do and know that she is not limited by anything and exposure to culture, places, and phyical activity does the mind and body good.

Looking back now, I managed to get in few cool things this year too.   I travelled to Chicago to visit with friends.  My trip to Chicago was the first time I got to experience beyond a conference room, i.e. fly in/fly out business meeting,  created pottery and had my work displayed and sold in a gallery, attended an event to see Michelle Obama, updated my resume for the first time in many years, went on a school fieldtrip for the first time in decades, and held our second annual Christmas Cookie party with good friends.

Lots happened in 2017 both positive and negative.  But it definitely feels like the positive out weighed the negative.   Looking forward to positive outcomes in 2018!

Saturday Musings

Stress free Saturday mornings????

fullsizeoutput_2b33

This morning I had to try to pull a rabbit out of my hat to get my kid out of the house on time for her soccer game- clean, dressed  and fed all before 9 AM.   Did I mention that I needed to accomplish this feat without one single drop of COFFEE?

I have been told to leave my helicopter at home and let her do for herself.  Lets go, lets go….do you have a soccer bag and water bottle? We arrive at the field late and I notice that she does not have her water bottle that I told her to bring with her.  I go back to the car only to find a doll and no water bottle.   Thank goodness I always have a spare water bottle-thirst averted.  Upon our arrival at home-see picture above. There is her water bottle sitting in the driveway.

In grand scheme of things all is good.  She played soccer, fun was had and we did not lose the water bottle.  But the struggle is Real!!!

Things I loved this week:

Michelle Obama <–Going to see Michelle Obama in November!!!!!!!!!

somewhat simple 50 questions to ask your kids

Keen Elsa Chelsea boots <–The 3 C’s: cute, comfortable, and cozy

Midlife Crisis for Gen-X Women  <— this is an interesting read.  It is explains how I feel at times.  Wondering why we cannot resolve our midlife issues with a sports car, trophy husband and a new hair do.  Gen X’ers just have all the fun.

One last note.  I just picked up some of my pots that completed their first firing ( bisque). It’s time to GLAZE!!!!  I will post pictures when completed.

Until next time, remember to breathe, help others and love the ones you are with.

Best wishes,

Pumpkin and Apple Time!

It’s my favorite time of the year in New England.  Autumn is finally here!!!  The sun is bright and the air is crisp.  I am looking forward to picking apples, baking some yummy things, wearing cosy sweaters, and watching the leaves change color.

There are lots of crazy things going on around us and each day is more alarming than the next.  I am trying to stay focused on the positive and enjoy each day.  So I take a deep breaths and enjoy my crazy commute to work (Audible rocks!!!), pottery class and  watching my daughter enjoy dance class and soccer.

Later this month I will be participating in my first student art show.  I will be displaying some of my wheel thrown and handbuilt pottery.   I am very excited!  Some of my recent work is displayed in the picture of above.  I will post the finished work later this month.

Remember to breathe, help others, and  love the ones your with.

Current Obsessions:

Best wishes,

LaRae

Summer Joy

Summer, summer, summer time!  Yesterday, I feel like I created a great summer memory for my daughter.  We visited Lake Compounce and played in its splash parks.  My daughter is a summer baby that loves water.  We splashed, got sprayed and doused and it was pure joy.  Our favorite memory yesterday was the Lazy River, we were cruising along in our two person inner tub when my daughter capsized us to so that we could get to the water tunnel feature.  After righting us and scooping her  up we headed up the stairs to the water slide.  My girl is a real daredevil-no fear of height or water.  We shot down the tube laughing and screaming the whole way. Best ride ever!!  I am so happy that I am her mom.

Until next time.
